As part of the Society’s policy of developing the museum, new displays based on the Influence of the Industrial Revolution on the Vale of Evesham, are being designed and constructed.
These will illustrate the influence of Science and Technology on the industry of the area which is mainly based on agriculture.
The main themes of the displays will be the expansion in agricultural methods brought about by the invention of the steam engine, the construction of the railways and the invention and development of communications.
The exhibits include photographs, timelines, model steam engines and locomotives and telephone equipment, covering the timescale 1740 to 1950.
The two photographs (above) represent the era of steam power that had a massive effect on the agricultural industry in this area. The displays also illustrate the social history of the Vale of Evesham and supplement the agricultural exhibits on the ground floor.
It is intended to develop these exhibits over the next few months to include other local historical contributions to the themes including the life and work of Sir Henry Fowler, and to publish the research and collections.
